The
First Aid Farm Quest CD is a multimedia, interactive educational
program that teaches 5th and 6th graders first
aid and injury prevention skills. The CD was created with the intent
to educate youth to the hazards of life in rural areas, especially on
family-owned farms. Farm family members, including children, have an
unacceptably high rate of injuries and deaths.
This CD teaches youth the types of hazards that lead to injury
or emergency-related illnesses, the importance of accessing emergency
health care, and how to perform basic first aid.

Background
Approximately 1.5 million children live, work, or have a regular presence on farms in the U.S. And farming is one of the most dangerous industries in the United
States. Approximately 130 injuries per 100,000 youth occur on farms each year. Farming is one of the few occupational settings where children
actively participate in the same work that is typically performed by
adults. Implementing farm first aid and safety programs
is an important role in reaching the goal of improving health
outcomes for rural families. |
